A review of Essex County Newspapers by Stephen Bedell written on Tuesday 24th of July 2007
The 78 bus from First National is a life line for Elderly and Young people who do not have a car to get to work, places like Wivenhoe, the General Hospital, to the Job Centre, for their education and their pleasure and leisure needs. Before the bus service there was a train station in Brightlingsea that connected to Colchester, thus leaving it less issolated. If First National take away this service, they are doing damage to Brightlingsea and their fanchise for the bus service, should be taken away.
Why is it that people with a car, and can travel from A to Z, have no interest in the people without and can't we have a proper system of transport for those that have needs?
The train Station, I believe, was taken away by Beecham in the 1950's stating a bus service would still be provided. The service has already been reduced, not getting to work at bank holidays etc.
I propose that the people of Brightlingsea should take on this franchise and make this town great again. If we bring back services, such as Ambulance, Employment Agentices and our needs, we could be saving costs on the enviroment and creating work locally. This can only produce good results living in Brightlingsea and is a way forward rather than create situations leading to unrest and then ASBOS.
